The arc protection device “OVOD-MD” is aimed for the protection of switchgear units of electric substations of 0.4-35kV in the event of a short circuit, followed by an open arc.
For detection of the arc discharge fiber-optical sensors (FOS) are used in the device. Luminous flux from the arc, collected by FOS enters the blocks of the optoelectronic conversion and eventually turns to a closure/break of dry contacts in the output relays of the device in accordance with its operation algorithm.
Design of the FOS also allows implementation of the continuous automatic verification of integrity of fiber-optical cable of the sensor.
Luminous flux from the arc is being received in the near infrared range that ensures the functioning of the FOS even if their lenses are coated with a layer of dust or soot. This circumstance, as well as a wide angle of capture of the FOS lenses excludes carrying out of scheduled maintenance works related to the cleaning of the lenses.
